In His Steps – 1 Peter 2:21

Training young people for excellence in their service to the Lord Jesus Christ.

An outreach of the St. Thomas Evangelical Church of India, JMBC stands as a gift to the churches and missions in India and beyond—shaping servant-leaders for Christ’s kingdom.

About JMBC

Our Vision

We are committed to seeing the nation of India with over one billion people increasingly come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ the Saviour as more and more trained disciples engage in making disciples.

Our Mission

To train young men and women in the Word of God and Christian discipleship so that they may, in godliness, faith, prayer and servanthood, ‘walk in His steps’ and fulfill the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus in India.

Our History

A Legacy of Learning

The St. Thomas Evangelical Church of India (STECI), a Reformed branch of the ancient St. Thomas Church in Kerala, recognized the need for a Bible college to train not only its own ministers but also students from other churches.

To meet this need, Jubilee Memorial Bible College (JMBC) was founded in Chennai (then Madras) on 15 August 1987 as a Silver Jubilee project of STECI. The college began at the Sishyashram premises in Anna Nagar and was inaugurated by Rev. K. O. John, then Sabha Secretary of STECI, with the Very Rev. P. T. Chandapilla as Chairman, Rev. Thomas Abraham as Principal, and Rev. Varghese Philip as Registrar.

In its early years, limited facilities restricted the number of students who could be trained. Recognizing the need for more space, the college relocated in June 1993 to its current campus at Iyyancherry in Urappakkam. The new campus is about 10 km south of Tambaram and 17 km from Chennai’s domestic and international airports, just off the GST Road and 1 km from Urappakkam railway station.

JMBC teaches students to live by the evangelical truths of all sixty-six books of the Bible. The college emphasizes a life of discipleship shaped by godliness, faith, and prayer. The faculty, living and serving in community, model these values and invite students to follow Jesus Christ, our Master and Servant.

JMBC is governed by its Board of Governors, which is directly accountable to the Jubilee Memorial Trust.

Our Approach to Training

At JMBC, we help students live according to the truths found in all sixty-six books of the Bible. We give special attention to discipleship, encouraging a life of godliness, faith, and prayer.

Academic Excellence

We aim for strong biblical understanding—not just knowledge, but truth that shapes life. Our teaching connects the Bible with today’s world, helping students face current and future challenges with wisdom.

Character Formation

We care about who our students become. Through mentoring, care groups, and personal relationships, students grow in integrity, humility, and compassion. These groups become a family where character is shaped through everyday life.

Ministerial Formation

Ministry is learned by doing. Students serve in churches and mission fields, gaining hands-on experience in preaching, worship, teaching, and leadership. This practical training helps them serve with confidence wherever God leads.

CORE VALUEs

Values that set us apart

As a Mission oriented organization, we go beyond mere academic study, we provide practical training intertwined with character development.

Rooted in Faith

Everything we do is built on God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and our trust in His Word, His Church, and His mission in the world.

Academic Credibility

Approved by ATA, we maintain high-quality biblical education that equips students for effective ministry.

Discipleship Focus

We train disciples who grow in Christ and multiply faithful followers, with Bible-based character at the core.

Interdenominational Excellence

Students and faculty come from different church backgrounds but share one evangelical faith and purpose.

Mission Oriented

We prepare leaders for cross-cultural ministry, empowering them to share the Gospel and serve holistically.

Character Development

More than just studies—we shape Christlike character through hands-on training and real-life ministry.

Biblical based development

The members of the Faculty, who live and minister as a fellowship, consciously try to demonstrate the principles of faith and discipleship, and challenge the students to join them in following the footsteps of the Master-Servant, the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • There is one God, infinite and eternally existent in three Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, who reveals Himself in perfect holiness and love.
  • The Holy Bible containing the sixty-six books of the Old Testament and the New Testament is the fully and uniquely revealed and inspired Word of God, infallible, inerrant, entirely trustworthy and the ultimate authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
  • The full deity and humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His representative and substitutionary death, resurrection and ascension.
  • The dignity of man created in the image of God, his fall, his universal sinfulness and consequent subjection to God’s wrath and condemnation, his need of redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin, his salvation by the grace of God, through repentance and faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit enabling believers to live a holy life and equipping them to serve responsibly in society.
  • The spiritual unity of all believers in Christ, composing the Church, the body of Christ, visibly expressed in worship, fellowship and service to society.
  • The mission of the Church consists primarily of the evangelisation of the world, and especially the un-reached peoples through the proclamation of the Gospel by word and deed so that individuals and families find new life in Christ and churches are planted.
  • The personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the resurrection of all, they that are saved unto eternal life, and they that are lost unto eternal death.
